Ranlo, North Carolina, carries a rich history that is deeply intertwined with the textile industry. The town was incorporated on July 29, 1963, and its name, "Ranlo", is a combination of the names of two prominent industrialists, John Calvin Rankin and W. Thomas Love. This duo significantly contributed to the growth of the community around their textile mills, starting with the Rex Spinning Company in 1915 and followed by the Ranlo Manufacturing Company in 1916. The rural setting of Ranlo and its prospering mills played a pivotal role in promoting Gastonia-headquartered mills.
